We cannot wait to feature YOU!Today, we're shining a light on Mecca McDonald, a proud member of the Class of 2017, whose story is nothing short of inspiring!After graduating from College Academy, Mecca went on to attend The Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship, where she continued to excel academically and pursue her passions. But Mecca’s journey did not stop there! Fueled by a passion for innovation and storytelling, Mecca has founded not one but two companies – a bioplastic materials startup and a film & media production company.🌱Recently, Mecca was accepted into a prestigious climate fellowship (776 Foundation), founded by Alexis Ohanian Sr., with a $100,000 grant to further develop her groundbreaking bioplastic materials. This work is paving the way for a more sustainable future!🌍🎬 On the creative front, Mecca's company, Pedestal LLC just celebrated a major milestone! Her debut short film, "Liminality," won the Grand Jury Prize at the Essence Film Festival, showcasing the power of storytelling and artistic vision.College Academy could not be prouder of Mecca and all she has accomplished (in such a short span of time). Her story is truly a testament to the power of education, passion, and perseverance. Good afternoon College Academy family! Today we want to spotlight some of our amazing alumni!Back in 2023 and now again in 2024 we have had the privilege of seeing several of College Academy’s brightest academics, Chelsea Brown, Mia-Marie Fields, and Zahra Hassan, speak at their respective commencement ceremonies—both institutions being world renowned! Chelsea spoke in 2023 and Mia-Marie in 2024 for Syracuse University’s commencement ceremony and Zahra just this past weekend spoke at Duke University’s commencement ceremony.College Academy and Broward College could not be happier or more proud for these three stellar graduates. Good afternoon!The first week of Spring semester has come to an end! With it, we would love to share some exciting news for our current senior superstars! This year, College Academy at Broward College has FIVE Posse Scholars! These five students deserve a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS! They persisted through three rounds of competitive interviews to be selected and will receive a FULL TUITION scholarship at some of the most highly selective liberal arts colleges in the country! Our scholars are:Fabiana Peres - will attend POMONA COLLEGE!Marina Do Carmo - will attend FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL COLLEGE!Nicholas Cuervo-Leon will attend FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL COLLEGE!Ja'riah Lamons will attend HAMILTON COLLEGE!Briana Martin will attend HAMILTON COLLEGE!But that’s not all! In addition to Posse, we have TWO QuestBridge Match Scholars!! These two students earned FULL COST OF ATTENDANCE Scholarships to one of the top 50 ranked schools in the country! Our scholars are:Bolton Bazil will attend DUKE UNIVERSITY!Angeles Mejia will attend WILLIAMS COLLEGE!But WAIT, that’s not all! Angeles (and CA) was ALSO featured on NBC6.
