- Robert Downey Jr. is going to return as Doctor Doom in the MCU.

- One iconic theory gives Doctor Doom a connection to Wanda Maximoff and the potential destruction that follows!
You have heard about Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom in the MCU. You have heard about the potential fight between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Doctor Doom. But have you heard about this theory?
Hidden in the depths of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, lies a film that people lovingly refer to as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In that film, we see the members of the Illuminati with one chair empty.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is the Missing Illuminati Member
In the 2022 film, Doctor Strange is brought for a trial in Earth-838 where he stands in front of the Illuminati. Comprising of Mordo, Professor Charles Xavier, Captain Carter, Captain Marvel, Black Bolt, and Reed Richards, the world falls in love with them.
Keen-eyed fans spotted a major detail during the scene, that one of the chairs of the Illuminati was empty. On the basis of the empty throne, there have been numerous theories and rumors about who the missing member could be.
Well, there is a theory that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom would be the missing member of the Illuminati team that day. Probably on an excursion or a mission somewhere, Doctor Doom completely misses the massacre that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff does.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Will Team Up With a Former Avenger For the Ultimate MCU Destruction, Industry Expert Predicts
This sets up the perfect connection between Doctor Doom, Earth-616 (our MCU Earth), and Doctor Strange. What if we were to tell you that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might be a good guy simply trying to protect his universe from future threats? The quote “until you see yourself become a villain” might ring true to this theory.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Was a Good Guy?
With Thanos, the world joined together to defeat the Mad Titan in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Seeing from a practical point, Thanos was simply trying to save the universe before it destroyed itself.
This makes Thanos actually one of the good guys! Although his ways were wrong, his statement, “The hardest choices require the strongest wills” was simply iconic.
So, considering that point of view, it could be a possibility that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom (or Victor Von Doom) could have been a good guy or even a superhero. However, considering his team was massacred by the hands of Wanda Maximoff from Earth-616 (with partial blame on Doctor Strange), it would be enough to make anyone angry.

This theory perfectly sets up how, upon returning, Doctor Doom might find his team completely massacred. Prompting him to turn to nefarious ways, Doctor Doom could declare an all-out war on Earth-616, thus, bringing RDJ back into our realm not as Iron Man… but as Doctor Doom.
Although it makes sense, it remains, after all, a mere theory. Currently, nothing can be denied or confirmed at this point and people will have to simply wait and see.
